FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

You Give So Much.
Let Yourself Receive the Care You Deserve.

As a helping professional or healer, you give so much of yourself to care for others. But you can’t continue to give when your cups are empty. This is why I provide therapy for healers. We need a safe place to talk about the difficulties we experience as compassionate workers and empathy givers.

Without taking the much-needed time to prioritize your own mental health and well-being, you will burn out faster and have little room to take quality care of others. You deserve care and compassion, too.

Flowers against the rising sun. Give yourself the care you deserve by seeking therapy for healers.

I see you. You are determined to move through life empowered and clear instead of feeling chaotic or stuck. You’ve had talk therapy before, and as they say, “talk is cheap”. Time – especially for us healers – is also expensive. Traditional talk therapy hasn’t helped you to get where you want to go, and you feel like you need something or someone different. Someone who understands. A healer who offers therapy for healers.

That’s why it’s crucial to seek therapy and give yourself the same level of care that you provide to those you serve. Just like you tell your patients and clients, you must take care of yourself before you can adequately help others.

Therapy Honoring the Mind, Body, and Spirit

Trust me. I understand the unique challenges and stressors you face in your demanding roles. I understand that people in helping professions often dedicate themselves wholly to helping others, sometimes at the expense of sacrificing their own wellbeing.

When was the last time you thought about trauma? The fact is, we all have traumatic experiences — maybe not the “Big T” traumas like assault or first responder stressors, although I treat those, too — but what are considered the “Little t” traumas. “Little t” traumas are highly distressing events that affect individuals on a personal level but don’t fall into the big “T” category.

Sandy Boone, owner of Foothold Counseling. Sandy is wearing a brown top and colorful scarf. She helps provide therapy for those seeking deep insights through therapy.

These types of traumas can include witnessing or hearing about traumatic events in the workplace, non-life-threatening injuries, emotional abuse, death of a pet, bullying or harassment, loss of significant relationships, and chronic health issues. What is highly distressing to one person may not cause the same emotional response in someone else, so the key to understanding little “t” trauma is to examine how it affects the individual rather
than focusing on the event itself.

The very empathy that makes you an exceptional healer can leave you profoundly affected by the pain and trauma you witness every day on the job. This – coupled with the stresses of your work – can take a huge toll on even the most resilient person

The Journey to Discover
Your True Self and Desires

I deliver a non-judgmental space to help you process the obstacles you face so you can feel heard and renewed while continuing your meaningful work. You give others the space to heal and be vulnerable. Now it’s your turn to receive healing and professional support. You deserve this space just as much as the space you give to others.

Instead of focusing on a particular issue like most therapists, I take a holistic approach to seeing you as the whole person. Your experiences in life, your traumas – big T traumas and little T traumas, your resiliency, and how you want to show up in the world. Specifically, I offer specialized therapy for healers and work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms related to their line of work.

I suspect on the outside you’re a “High Achiever” or a “Type A Personality.” You are probably a “Seeker” and a “Hard Worker.”  But on the inside, have you spent a lot of time wondering, “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I get past this?” Perhaps right now, you’re feeling like you’ve hit a “ceiling moment” and you are just longing for authenticity so that you can finally get to know your true desires and needs.

Maybe, for the first time, you’re wondering who you really are…or what you really want your life to look like. Or, if you know what you want your life to look like, would it be helpful to have someone accompany you on your journey to ask the hard questions and hear the impossible answers? What would it take for the ceiling to become the floor again? And maybe you’ve had traditional “talk” therapy that didn’t give you the results you were seeking. In my specialty of providing therapy for healers, I help you heal from deeper issues that may be missing in traditional therapy methods.
